Anniversary for King’s Lynn literary festival

Today marks the final day of the King’s Lynn Fiction Festival which is celebrating its 25th year.

The festival has played host to many famous names over the years and over this weekend with Sir Michael Holroyd and Rose Tremain rounding off this years line up.

“It’s a celebration of literature,” said Ann Thwaite, biographer and children’s author, who, along with her husband, poet Anthony Thwaite, has been attending since the first festival. “It always feels as if you are celebrating rather than listening.

“There is a very loyal audience and the event nearly always has some great people.”

Committee member Joan Evans said: “We’ve had some wonderful people over the years. It’s just been a fantastic and wonderful experience to meet all the writers.

“It’s so lovely to meet people who are so truly talented.”

During the morning session at the Town Hall biographer Sir Holroyd spoke to Christopher Bigsby, lecturer in American studies at UEA, about his own life while historical novelist Ms Tremain will wrap up the festival.
