Spectators crammed into Wymondham High Academy as judges were faced with the unenviable task of picking the Wymondham’s Got Talent champion amd carnival queen.

More than 60 future stars auditioned for the talent show, with judges whittling the entrants down to the final 12.

But just one triumphed - a decision which will be shrouded in secrecy until this weekend’s carnival.

As well as a slot on the main stage, the lucky winner will also be handed £500 in prize money.

Paleontologist and natural historian Wednesday Bachelor, who lives on Elise Way, was chosen to don the prestigious carnival queen tiara.

Dianne Fernee, deputy mayor and part of the Wymondham Business Group, said: “It was a really good night. It was the biggest crowd we have had so far - people were queuing out of the door.

“It really felt like people had pulled out all the stops for the last performance.”

With just a week to go until the carnival, organisers from the business group are busy preparing for the popular event.

At 2pm, a colourful procession will wind its way from Back Lane through the town to the market square, with craft stalls and eateries lining the streets.

Carnival-goers will be transported from their historic market town to a traditional seaside one, with donkey rides, ice-creams and buskers all part of the ‘by the sea’ theme.

The carnival will run from 2pm to 11pm on Saturday, July 26.
