Vintage Garden Party

Chilled refreshments on the lawn and cakes and tea served in the garden were the order of the day at a vintage-themed party set against the stunning backdrop of a 16th century building.

Oxnead Hall, near Aylsham played host to a vintage garden party on Sunday to help raise funds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

As well as traditional afternoon tea served from The Orangery, there was also live swing music, traditional garden games including croquet, and a Mad Hatter’s competition for the younger guests.

Carol Clay, 65, and Nigel Allard, 64, from Taverham are volunteers for the air ambulance who had come to support the charity.

Ms Clay said: “I have not been able to volunteer as I have been out of action so we thought we would come and support the charity. It is such a fantastic setting.”

Nigel Caustin, 58, from Suffield, a keen swing dancer, had heard about the event via the band playing there, The King Size Papas.

He said: “It is a really nice atmosphere and what a perfect place to hold a vintage style event it is a lovely setting.”

Some entered into the spirit of things, opting to come to the event in vintage attire and there was also a selection of stalls selling accessories, crafts and artwork for vintage enthusiasts, and a pop-up hair and make-up salon for a little pampering.

EAAA fundraising co-ordinator for North Norfolk, Klara Mears said: “It is 70 years since D-Day so we wanted to commemorate that and everybody loves a vintage fair and so we decided to tie it all in together and then when we came across Oxnead and the grounds it seemed the perfect setting.

“We feel very privileged to be holding the fundraiser at such a fantastic venue.”

Oxnead Hall was built for Admiral Sir Clement Paston in the late 16th century. The Estate is currently owned by the Aspinall family and covers just under 14 acres.
