With less than two weeks before the Great Yarmouth Beer and Cider Festival gets underway, organisers are finalising arrangements for the 8th annual event over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.
Over 50 different ales from a wide selection of breweries will be available to festival-goers plus a large selection of the increasingly popular UK produced ciders. As well as a hands-on involvement, this year’s main sponsor, Yarmouth’s own Lacons Brewery will be providing a wide selection of beers including their Falcon ale that celebrates the brewery’s heritage and is only available during May.
Lacons will also be hosting a “meet the brewer” event during the Friday afternoon session when real ale enthusiasts can discuss all things related to creating the perfect beer with Lacons award-winning brewer Wil Wood.
In total some 24 breweries will be represented at the Festival including regional favourites Adnams, Woodfordes, Green Jack and Ole Slewfoot with a great selection of locally produced ales.
There will also be the opportunity to try some less familiar brews by micro brewers from further afield including Late Knights (London), Wold Top (Yorkshire), Skinners (Cornwall) and Thornbridge (Derbyshire) plus one of Yarmouth’s newest craft brewers, Tombstone, will be supplying three of their “Western” themed beers.
Live music will play a key part with local artists including Junk Shop Poets, Addisons Uncle, Jude Garrod , Grant Ley, Bandjaxeld, Kolin Durier and Monkey Spanner all set to perform during the weekend.
The new pavilion building will be open throughout the festival providing food and soft drinks and an alternative space for festival-goers to enjoy their ale and cider.
The festival will be open for a number of lunch and evening sessions starting with the opening on Thursday, May 22 at 5pm, a lunchtime (11am to 3pm) and evening (5pm to 11pm) sessions on both the Friday and Saturday, finishing with a lunchtime session (12 to 3pm) on Sunday, May 25.
Advance tickets for all sessions are available through the St George’s Theatre booking office with prices varying from £3 to £5 depending on the session attended. All advance ticket holders will also be entered into a prize draw to win 365 pints of Lacons beer, which will be provided to the lucky winner in five x 72 pint pins as and when he or she requires it.
