Staff at Aldiss are busily working around the clock this week in preparation for the company’s biggest sale in its 120-year history.
The teams at the stores at Oxborough Lane, Fakenham and Hall Road Retail Park, Norwich are frantically preparing and pricing goods for the sale, which begins on Friday.
Aldiss is putting £5m worth of stock up for sale , with discounts of up to 70pc off, to enable the company’s two stores to be re-designed.
More than 40,000 product lines will be offered at reduced prices.
The stores are closed to the public this week to enable the preparation for the sale to be done.
They will reopen at 10am on Friday when a big rush of bargain-hunters are expected.
Aldiss managing director Paul Clifford said: “Our teams have a big job on this week preparing for this sale but, even if we have to work through the night, we will be ready.
“The teams have been brilliant. We closed our doors on Friday night and they have been in all weekend and are working hard this week to make sure we are ready.
“The best thing about their job is serving customers and dealing with the general public so they haven’t wanted the store to be closed this week but it is unfortunately something that we have had to do in preparation for this massive sale.
“I want to thank our customers for their patience. We have not had any nasty phone calls complaining while we have been closed.
“A couple of people have called to ask if we are shutting down, but that is clearly not the case. We are doing the opposite to that by continuing to invest and improve what we are doing and ensuring that our customers can have a better shopping experience with us.”
The sale is being carried out to enable the two stores to be reorganised so that more floor space can be dedicated to the best-performing departments.
Every single item in every department will offered at a marked down price, including sofas, chairs, dining room furniture, beds, bedroom furniture, lamps, pictures, mirrors, lighting, kitchen items, gifts, linens and more.
More than 3,000 rugs will be on sale, from under £30 to a Chinese silk rug which has been reduced from £7,999 to £3,593.
The sale will continue until the Aldiss management is happy that stock is at a level where they can go ahead with their redesign plans.
The stores will remain open while the redesign is carried out.
Mr Clifford said: “We are expecting to be really busy and it is difficult to say how long the sale will last. It could be done within five days or it could last for a couple of weeks.”
