A £10,000 fund-raising target has been smashed by Norfolk finance and insurance experts, the Alan Boswell Group.

Chief executive Alan Boswell and six of the company’s directors have returned victorious from a charity bobsleigh challenge in Austria – raising £13,358 for the staff charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.

‘Team Boz’ hurtled down a track, 2,500ft up a mountain side, in sleds at speeds of more than 80mph to raise funds for the charity, with the best time, of 59 seconds, being achieved by Attleborough director Andy Dowler.

Chris Gibbs, Nick Drew, Adrian Rayner, John Whitehead and Andrew Terry were the other directors involved, as well as five of the team’s partners who joined them for the sled run.

Helen Chapman, area fundraiser for Macmillan, was thrilled with the amount raised, saying: “Alan Boswell Group were one of the highest achieving local corporate fund-raisers for us in 2011.

“The bobsleigh challenge was something totally different and is a great example of what can be achieved in Norfolk with inventiveness and team spirit.”

Anglia TV studios loaned a video camera to the team, for free, so they could share the evidence of their runs with supporters, and local company The Production Bureau have provided their editing services for a special charitable rate.

The resulting film of the bobsleigh challenge was enjoyed by the company’s 200 employees from its five offices around the east of England – Norwich, Attleborough, Bury St Edmunds, London and Ely – at their recent annual staff party.

Staff raised an additional £2,000 for Macmillan through dress down days and cake sales so the total raised for the cancer charity by the Alan Boswell Group in 2011 surpassed £15,000.

The company is now gearing up for another charitable year as it selects a charity for 2012.
