Aerial footage taken by two Norfolk pilots of the Northern Distributor Road (NDR) in Norwich shows the development of the new road which is due to open next spring.

Mike Page and his co-pilot Dan Gay are taking videos of the 12.5-mile route from the air to track the progress of the £178.5m development. The pair shot their first video in March 2016 with the latest one being completed on August 1.

Over the past 17 months the pair have captured a dramatic transformation of the route from fields to parts of it now resembling a usable road.

MORE: Busy B1149 Holt Road closes to motorists today for major Norwich Northern Distributor Road work

Earlier this week the B1149 Holt Road south of Horsford was permanently closed to traffic to make way for the A1270 Norwich NDR dual carriageway and to allow construction of slip roads serving the major junction with the A140 Cromer Road.

All B1149 traffic, including cyclists, will be diverted via New Drayton Lane and Reepham Road to join the A140 Cromer Road at the Boundary Junction.

This diversion will remain in place until traffic can use the NDR dual carriageway and A140 junction to restore access to the A140 Cromer Road. It is expected to take up to three months to complete the junction.

Nearly 630 acres of farmland, 25 acres of woodland and part of the grounds to several homes and businesses, including at the City of Norwich Aviation Museum, have been used for the project.
