The fatality comes just days after another motorist, 81-year-old Kenneth Hobbins, lost his life in a crash on the same road.

The latest accident happened around 10.15am when the Renault car the man was driving collided with a Volvo articulated lorry.

Police were called to the scene shortly after and closed the A11 northbound carriageway for several hours.

A police spokesman said he believed there had been no other injuries. Recovery crews were called to the scene and traffic was diverted while an examination of the collision area was carried out.

Mr Hobbins of Stratton Strawless in Norfolk, died last Wednesday after the black Mecedes estate car he was driving was involved in a crash with a white DAF truck between Barton Mills and Elveden. The lorry driver was treated at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds for minor injuries.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who saw either of the vehicles on the A11 before the accident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Pc Jeff Cribb, at the Suffolk police Serious Collision Investigation Team, on 101.
