WORK to fix a broken manhole cover on the A47 Acle straight, which caused huge delays this morning, has finished - but temporary traffic lights will remain in place until tomorrow (Tuesday).

Motorists were delayed by up to 40 minutes after traffic was reduced to one lane as engineers carried out emergency repairs to the collapsed cover on the eastbound carriageway, a few yards from the entrance to the Vauxhall holiday park.

Drivers also faced queues in and out of Great Yarmouth this evening but BT - which has carried out the repairs - said the work had now been completed, but the lights will stay to allow the concrete to set.

A spokesman apologised for any inconvenience caused.

Cones were put up around the collapsed cover on Saturday, causing delays over the weekend.
