Film education charity Cinema Plus, based at Norwich’s Cinema City, has been awarded the cash from the Heritage Lottery Fund for a county-wide project aiming to encourage more people to enjoy and learn from cinema of the past and future.

The scheme, Norfolk at the Pictures, aims to create a permanent archive of local people’s memories, documents and artefacts that tell the story of cinema-going in Norfolk as well as creating a new education and community space at Cinema City.

The Screen Heritage Centre, designed by local architect Charles Emberson, will upgrade outdated rooms at Cinema City currently used for cinema education and will host a range of film education related activities.

The project will be delivered in partnership with UK-wide company Picturehouse Cinemas which manages Cinema City’s commercial screenings and activities.

It is an 18 month project, with the Screen Heritage Centre expected to open in autumn 2015.

See tomorrow’s paper for an in-depth look at the project.
