Twenty-four hours of song filled a village church as singers took part in a fundraising musical marathon.

The special singathon at All Saints Church, in Salhouse, saw more than 500 people take part - and as well being watched by the audience filling the church pews, the singers were also seen by people across the globe via a live streaming of their epic concert on the internet.

Singathon organiser Peter Allies, husband of the church’s priest in charge, the Rev Lorna Allies, said everyone involved had help produce something “spectacular, unique and wonderful.”

He said: “It was absolutely brilliant. It was a fantastic goodwill success, with wonderful talent and variety.”

The singathon started at 9.30am on Saturday with the All Saints Church Choir singing Be Still, and finished with the choir singing Dear Lord and Father of Mankind. In between various groups and individuals treated the audience to everything from African music to a barber shop quartet to pop songs to songs from musicals.

The High Sheriff of Norfolk, Henry Cator, was among the people to perform, and groups taking part included Brundall Singers, Salhouse Primary School, Rackheath Primary School, Broadland Youth Choir, Norwich Community Choir, Oriole Singers, Hemblington Harmony, and Beccles-based Auriga Capella.

Mr Allies said the concert attracted a good audience throughout the 24 hours, with some people staying to watch for hours.

He said the singathon raised more than more than £5,000 and this will be put towards a project to build a kitchen and toilet facilities at All Saints Church.
