A salon where city folk have been getting their hair cut for more than a decade has been named the best in the county.

Barry Alan Hair Salon, in Pottergate, opened its doors in Norwich 13 years ago having already operated in Long Stratton for nine years.

Salon owner Barry Wright is no stranger to accolades, securing the silver medal at the Wella Trend Vision international competition in London in 2013.

Now, as part of the Muddy Stilettos Awards for 2024, with around 515,000 people voting nationally, the salon has been named the best in Norfolk.

Barry's wife, Beth Wright, who runs the marketing for the salon and has been involved with the business for the last 18 years, was ecstatic when she heard the news.

"It has been brilliant, and the team is so excited," she said.

"This award isn't just down to Barry and me, but the whole team, who have worked incredibly hard for it.

"It's a lovely feeling."

The salon has already seen an increase in business since the announcement on May 2.

"We've gained loads more followers on our social media channels and it has been busy at the salon," Beth said.

"We are lucky that we always have new customers coming through the door but this has really cemented our position as one of the best salons in the city.

"There is so much competition in Norwich that it is lovely that the public thinks we are worth the top spot."

"We have a lovely hair family here," said Beth.

"From the team at the salon to the customers, everyone is very excited.

"Some of those who come in to get a haircut have been with Barry for more than 20 years!"

The salon is entered into the national stage of the Muddy Stilettos Awards, with winners to be announced in July.
