A panto favourite will return to Norwich Theatre Royal for his fifth Christmas, but another stalwart will shine behind the scenes instead of on stage.

Joe Tracini is back by popular demand and he will be at the centre of the comedy action in Aladdin, which runs from December 7 2024 until January 5 2025.

Tracini, whose TV credits include Hollyoaks and CBBC's The Dengineers, said: "I’m back! I’m so excited and can’t wait to see you all at Christmas.

Richard Gauntlett, who has been involved in 23 Norwich Theatre Royal pantos, will take a break from performing as the dame this year to star as Buddy's father in the UK tour of Elf the Musical.

But he will still be very involved as he is writing the script, with a version of Aladdin set in the East of England.

Gauntlett said: "This Christmas, instead of donning the heels and big hair of the dame I am putting on my elf boots and hat.

“I am ecstatic to be writing the panto instead and that Joe Tracini will be in it again!

"I will be around in rehearsals too and of course available to give the new dame any make-up tips she needs.”

"We know how much our audiences love the sense of tradition that Richard brings to our pantomimes and we look forward to sharing in the coming weeks who will have the amazing opportunity to step in for Richard.

"We have no doubt that they will brilliantly fill those same size 8 (with 1.5-inch heel) shoes.”

Further casting is yet to be announced.
