A dog grooming salon is set to replace a village's closing post office which has been there for over a century.

Horning Post Office, in Lower Street, is closing next month as retiring sub-postmasters Andrew and Adrienne Seddon were unable to find a buyer to take over the post office and shop.

Now, plans have been approved for Pink Pawz Dog Grooming Salon to open in the post office building.

North Norfolk District Council said despite efforts being made to market the premises as a post office, the widely publicised Post Office scandal had a “detrimental effect” on attracting a new postmaster.

Pink Pawz Dog Grooming Salon, currently based at Grange Close in Norwich, had been seeking a new permanent home due to the expiration of its existing lease.

Horning Post Office will close on May 11.

Mr Seddon said: “We would like to thank our customers and visitors for their support over the years.

“We are genuinely sorry that the village is losing an essential service, but the financial pressures of running a post office have made it financially unviable to continue.”
