A youth club and community hub building in Lowestoft could be demolished - provided plans get the go-ahead.
Having provided a youth club and services to the community for decades, a new lease of life is being earmarked with "redevelopment of the land" at Boston Lodge Youth Club.
Plans for the demolition of the youth club - which had most recently been operated as a community hub building - have been submitted to Suffolk County Council.
A scheme centring around "Demolition of the main building and foundations, and the adjacent small garage building" at Boston Lodge Youth Club on Boston Road, Lowestoft, has been proposed.
With the "application validated" and "sent to East Suffolk Council for registration" - the 'Demolition Prior Notification' application was lodged with the county council by Concertus Design and Property Consultants.
It comes after "ongoing structural, health and safety and maintenance issues" were highlighted with the Boston Youth Club main building.
Temporary repairs had been carried out last year to allow the building to be used after structural defects were discovered in the building’s roof last summer.
However, further investigations found that these repair works were not enough "due to the age and construction of the building" and so the youth club and other community groups vacated the building at the end of December.
It has remained unused since then, and the plans state: "The main building is a single storey timber cladding and brickwork construction with a flat roof.
"There are numerous classrooms, workshops, study areas, staff rooms and offices, in addition to staff and visitor WCs."
With notices "to all residents, local pedestrians, and interested parties" placed on the building and a nearby noticeboard highlighting "the upcoming demolition project titled 'Boston Youth Club Demolition' is being managed by Concertus on behalf of Suffolk County Council.
It states: "The demolition of the main building will allow for the redevelopment of the land."
The demolition is expected to last for around six weeks.
