A south Norfolk primary school has received a good rating after an Ofsted inspection.

Gillingham St Michael’s Church of England Primary School, within the Diocese of Norwich Education and Academies Trust (DNEAT), has been given a good rating for overall effectiveness.

The school has 60 pupils between the ages of four and 11 and underwent an impromptu two-day onsite inspector visit on March 5 and 6.

This was the first routine inspection since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The examination reviewed the overall effectiveness, behaviour and attitudes, leadership and management, personal development and the early years provision, with all areas judged as good.

The curriculum was commended for being well-suited to mixed-age group teaching, and the leadership was praised for planning what pupils learn.

Inspecting officers also recognised the staff's knowledge and their ability to provide clear explanations that enhance pupils' understanding.

The inspectors further noted, "The trust has ensured that its systems for governance and school improvement all connect.

"This means that the school is challenged and supported effectively."

They also highlighted that the school's cooperative relationship with other smaller schools in the trust offered staff many opportunities for collaboration and professional growth.

Regarding the report, Heather Brand, executive headteacher, said: “We are very pleased that over the two days inspectors were able to see what a happy, flourishing and successful school Gillingham St Michael’s is.

"We are extremely proud of all in our school community and will continue to use to work hard to ensure that all can shine.”
