Two teenage boys have been arrested as police investigate seven thefts or attempted thefts of mopeds and motorbikes in Lowestoft this week.

They were arrested after a moped was stolen from Oxford Road on Monday and later abandoned in Park Road.

The public is being urged to report any suspicious activity while police investigate whether the incidents are linked to the same individuals.

That is due to an attempted moped theft also taking place in Cambridge Road on Sunday.

This was followed by a moped being stolen from Love Road and being found discarded in the bushes of Howley Garden play park, with its registration plate removed, on Wednesday.

Three incidents were also reported on Friday, including an attempted theft and damage of a Yamaha motorcycle from Church Road, a Honda motorcycle discarded and damaged near Kirkley Park Road and a moped stolen from Beaconsfield Road.

Officers are advising owners to pay extra attention to their bike and vehicle security after all seven incidents occurred at night.

Guidance has been issued which suggests bikers use a disk lock, secure the rear wheel with steel chains and use bike covers to reduce the risk of theft.

The two teens arrested for the Oxford Road theft on Monday were released on bail until May 29.

A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said: "Officers are keeping an open mind as to whether this recent spate is linked."

Anyone with information, particularly CCTV or doorbell footage, should contact Lowestoft police.
