A popular running event returns after a six-year break, with options for all abilities.

The seaside town of Hunstanton is bringing back the Beat the Tide event this June.

To be held on Sunday June 2, the event invites runners of all levels to participate in either a 10k or 5k run.

The race will kick off outside the Alive Oasis at around 9am, following a mass warmup.

Cllr Simon Ring, cabinet member for Tourism, Events and Marketing, said: “I’m pleased to see that we are reintroducing this fun run to the Hunstanton events schedule that is organised by the borough council.

“It’s been six years since Beat the Tide was last held in the town and what a picturesque backdrop too.

"You won’t find me running on the sand, I’ll be supporting our runners from the Promenade and hope to see as many take part as possible.”

There will be 250 places available for club runners, park runners, families, joggers and athletes of any fitness level.

The challenging run will take place on the scenic beach front, while avoiding the heavy mud areas of previous runs.

Participants will decide on the day of the event which distance they will run.

Part of the entry fee will be donated to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), whose volunteer members form an integral part of the community.

Jackie Merralls, a volunteer fundraiser for the Hunstanton and West Norfolk RNLI Guild, said: "The RNLI here is very much part of the community, the crew live a very short distance away.

"They’re all volunteers, the majority of them are family people who are on call 24/7. They’re our people in our community.”

People can enter the event now by visiting west-norfolk.gov.uk.

Those who complete the race will be awarded a special Beat the Tide medal.
