A miniature Shetland pony who was so thin that his ribcage was visible has made a remarkable recovery under the care of a horse sanctuary.
Charlie, 26, arrived at Norfolk-based Redwings after being found in an emaciated state.
His previous owner had severely neglected him, leading to an emergency intervention.
Redwings' senior field officer, Jo Franklin, said: "Charlie was a shocking sight, he was about as thin as an animal can get.

"He came to Redwings after a period of care elsewhere but to continue treatment, and for Charlie to live his happiest life, he needed to be in a sanctuary environment."
Following his recovery, it is hoped that Charlie will soon be able to join another small herd of Shetland ponies.

Ms Franklin added: "Since coming to us we've seen him totally transform into a healthy, happy pony.
"He's now out on grass and loves the company of his neighbours. He’s a very friendly boy and enjoys a scritch and a nuzzle from his carers.
"Charlie will never have to go without anything ever again thanks to our brilliant staff and the generosity of our amazing supporters."
His former owner has been prosecuted by the RSPCA following a lengthy case.
