Forget Paul the octopus, there may be a new football mystic on the scene.

Like many of the staff and students at Suffolk New College and Suffolk Rural, two residents of the latter's animal unit have backed Ipswich Town to beat Norwich City in the eagerly-anticipated East Anglian derby this weekend.

Bob the rabbit and Yoshi the tortoise were tasked with picking the winner ahead of Saturday's clash, with both choosing the Tractor boys.

Both Bob and Yoshi had the choice of food placed next to an Ipswich badge or a Norwich badge on a table in the animal studies building at the college.

Craig Shimmon, head of marketing at the college, said: "We tried something similar during the World Cup in 2018, but it didn't bring England much luck.

"Hopefully the psychic powers of Bob and Yoshi will help the Tractor Boys finally beat Norwich after 14 years of hurt."

Blues fans will be hoping their mystic abilities are reminiscent to Paul the octopus, who stunned the world by correctly predicting results during the 2010 World Cup.

Paul, who predicted four of Germany's six Euro 2008 results correctly, went on to successfully predict all seven of Germany's results at the South Africa World Cup, as well as tipping Spain to beat the Netherlands in the final.

Despite their differences in this year's Championship league table, it has been 14 years since Ipswich beat their East Anglian rivals.

Their last win in the fixture came in 2009 under Jim Magilton, courtesy of goals from Giovani dos Santos, Alan Quinn and Jon Stead, which left Portman Road jubilant as fans celebrated the 3-2 victory.
