A retired factory worker who was “completely heartbroken at losing her one love in life” died alone at home aged 76. 

Christine Blasby, of Bradwell near Great Yarmouth, was found dead at her home in Blackbird Close on October 14 last year.  

It was after officers from Norfolk police were called following concerns about her safety as she had not been seen or heard from for a few days.   

A statement from Ms Blasby’s niece, Justine Haynes, was read out at Norfolk Coroner’s Court at the inquest held on December 6.

Paying tribute to her aunt, she said: “Aunty Christine had not been a widow for long, as her late husband Barry died at home suddenly on September 2, 2021. 

“They had been inseparable for almost 50 years. 

“This was an awful shock for her as she found him dead on the couch in the morning.  

"I do believe that she was completely heartbroken at losing her soul mate and the one true love in life.

“She missed him terribly and counted each day, hour, and minute of his passing. 

“She spent every night cuddled to his pyjama top and missed him holding her hand.”   

The couple had been married for 47 years. Mr Blasby worked as a handyman and gardener.

Miss Haines went on to say that her aunt spent “almost every day at his graveside” and sometimes walked the three miles from her home to get there. 

“She was very determined, able, and independent for her age,” she added. 

“She had an amazing knowledge of plants and birds and always enjoyed tending to her garden and feeding the pigeons that visited.  

“She had a great memory for details and past events.” 

Area coroner for Norfolk, Yvonne Blake, confirmed that the medical cause of death was “unascertained” and recorded an open conclusion.    

Christine Adele Blasby was born on August 18, 1946, in Horsham, West Sussex.
