A Norfolk nature reserve has been forced to close due to severe flooding.

RSPB Strumpshaw Fen, six miles east of Norwich on the River Yare, announced earlier today that the park would be closed to all visitors because of high water levels.

A spokesman said on social media: "We have had to close the reserve this morning and will be monitoring the high tide levels.

"We will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so."

Pictures posted by the organisation, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, show areas of the fen flooded and footpaths swallowed by water.

Many trails and paths in the area are unnavigable due to the flooding which has also affected homes and businesses on the coast.

Homeowners in Pakefield were evacuated this morning after a section of coastal road fell into the sea overnight.

Hundreds of homes in Hemsby have also been left with power after the supply was cut "in the interest of the public's health and safety" following further coastal erosion.
