Many of us are starting to think about booking this year's holiday but why not look a bit closer to home for a mini-break?

There are lots of great places to go for a holiday in Norfolk - from picture-perfect villages to a trip to the seaside.

Here are seven places in Norfolk to head to for a staycation in 2023.

1. Burnham Overy Staithe

Burnham Overy Staithe, near Brancaster, is a beautiful and unspoilt part of the north Norfolk coast.

If you are looking for a peaceful getaway to enjoy coastal and countryside scenes and see some wildlife, this is a great choice.

Take in views of the salt marshes, creeks and sand dunes and the beach is just a one-mile walk.

Enjoy the National Trust's circular route walk in 2023 along the Norfolk Coast Path passing through Holkham National Nature Reserve.

2. Holt

Whether it is the town you desire, or a bit of countryside - Holt is the perfect small-town getaway.

The historic Georgian town boasts some well-loved cafes and boutiques, such as Byfords and Bakers & Larners, and is surrounded by parks.

The market town also offers art galleries and antique and book shops. 

Holt Summer Festival takes place in July every summer, with 2023 dates to be confirmed.

3. Norwich

The capital of Nelson's County is the perfect close-to-home getaway for those wanting a bit of city culture.

Venture a little further out of the city centre to the world-renowned art gallery The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts and Whitlingham Country Park for a walk around the broad.

From records shopping and vintage stores to restaurants and clubs, there is something for every visitor.

There is plenty going on in the city for 2023, including the Norfolk and Norwich Festival, which runs from May 12 to 28, and the Norwich Science Festival, from February 11 to 18.

4. Sheringham

Visit this traditional seaside town for a bite to eat or a bit of retail therapy.

Large boulders line the Blue Flag beach making it great for rock pooling. 

A stone's throw from the town is Sheringham Park where you can enjoy a walk around the parkland of Sheringham Hall. The famous rhododendrons draw in families in the late spring and early summer.

Sheringham Carnival weeks runs from July 31 to August 6 with lots of fun for all the family.

5. Snettisham

The RSPB Snettisham Nature Reserve across salt marshes and mudflats is the perfect destination for wildlife lovers and those wanting a peaceful nature break.

On some high tides from late summer onwards, tens of thousands of wading birds take flight as the incoming tide pushes them off the mudflats.

This is referred to as the Snettisham Spectacular and the 2023 dates can be seen on the RSPB website.

Visit nearby Heacham or Hunstanton for other sandy beaches.

6. Wroxham

Some refer to Wroxham as the capital of the Norfolk Broads.

A busy village, Wroxham sits on the picturesque River Bure.

Take a trip to the broad to watch some sailing or hire a day boat to get onto the water yourself.

Enjoy events in 2023 such as a trip on the Bure Valley Railway or onboard the Broads Tours boats.

7. Great Yarmouth

Doughnuts, chips and fairground rides - Great Yarmouth is the perfect destination for a traditional candyfloss-filled trip.

Head to the Time and Tide museum, Sea Life Centre or the arcades, among many other fun attractions.

Visit Great Yarmouth Wheels Festival on July 1 and 2, where bikes and classic cars will be lining up to star in a seafront festival.
