The pews of St Peter Mancroft were packed for the EDP's Christmas carol concert.

The service raised funds for the Nancy Oldfield Trust, which provides boating opportunities for disadvantaged and disabled people.

Starting the service, Richard Porritt, editor of the EDP, said: "For many Christmas can be stressful. There are pressures placed on all of us whether it is to spend more money, go to every party or make sure everyone has a great time.

"But these are artificial pressures. It is services like this one that allow us to remember the true meaning of the festive period."

Lessons were read by Carole Tims, from the Broadland Youth Choir, Hilary James, from the Nancy Oldfield Trust, Ian Clarke, head of print at the EDP, Lord Mayor of Norwich Cllr Dr Kevin Maguire and Lady Philippa Dannatt, Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk.

In her talk, Revd Naomi Tuma likened the Gospel of Luke to a work of investigative journalism.

Val Khambatta, chair of the Nancy Oldfield Trust, said: "We are very honoured to have been the charity supported by the EDP.

"To sing Christmas carols in such a magnificent setting in the heart of Norwich, to listen to the two choirs, together with the organ music was wonderful and to be gently reminded, during the address, of the true reason for our festivities all added up to a memorable evening.

"The Trust is very grateful for the support from the EDP and the donations that we shall receive and I would like to thank all those who gave of their time and talents to make it such a lovely evening."
