The Bangles taught us how to Walk Like an Egyptian. And now a team of experts is teaching the people of Norwich how to walk like a zombie.

For a team of eager extras is learning all the jerky moves of the army of the living dead - for a zombie comedy film that is being made in our Fine City.

On Sunday, the Norwich Zombie Project lured a host of would-be walking dead to its second training event at Norwich Theatre Royal, where the volunteers were given tips on how to act like stars from MIchael Jackson's Thriller or the movie Shaun of the Dead.

The project is the brainchild of photographer Chris Bottrell.

It is a community event celebrating the eclectic inhabitants of Norwich, and will raise money for East Anglia's Children's Hospices.

Mr Bottrell came up with the idea two years ago for a zero-budget zombie film shot in the city, featuring people from the city.

He said: 'I launched a Facebook page and had more than 100 messages from people interested in the project in the first hour. Now we are in talks with a national cinema chain about getting it shown all around the country.'

The response has been overwhelming and a team of volunteers has got on board, from cameramen and sound engineers to security guards and special effects make-up artists.

The film even features Norwich death metal band Grimace playing a set as Zombies at The Brickmakers Pub in Sprowston Road.

'We are also going to do some filming at Castle Mall and are talking to Norwich City Council about filming in other locations around the city,' said Mr Bottrell.

'We are keeping the locations to Norwich.'

Hundreds of extras are needed for the film and about 90 have already been given zombie training.

Special effects make-up artists K-Lee Norman and Craig Scott-Davies, who worked on the remake of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, were on hand to help people look like zombies.

And Penny Miricle put people through their paces in an energetic evening of how to act like the undead.

'It's really important to bring the best out of people and make sure they are all individuals,' she said. 'But when they are ready to kill, they all need to act as a pack.'

The film features aspiring actor Ricky Scarff and established actress Phoenix Storm - who are both based in Norwich.

'I have had an obsession with zombie films for as long as I can remember,' said Miss Storm. 'I jumped at the chance to take part in the film and ended up getting the role I wanted.'
