A Norfolk support group which helps new mums without mothers of their own has raised more than £10,000 for charities across the region – and the fundraising effort is set to continue to grow.

New Mums Without Mums is holding an online charity auction on Tuesday, July 14 between 9 and 10.30pm on their Facebook page, with all proceeds going to the East Anglia's Children's Hospices nook appeal for a new hospice.

There will be more than 90 prizes including afternoon tea, boat trips, photo shoots, days out and spa experiences.

The group has reached more than 125 members in the region on its Facebook page and since it started in 2013 has raised £12,000 for charities, with the most recent event being a quiz and chips evening for the East Anglian Air Ambulance, raising £1,000.

The Facebook group was set up by Louise Mundford, from Lime Tree Avenue in Long Stratton, in 2012 after losing her own mum four days after her first scan with her baby daughter Lydia. Members regularly meet up and support one another on the private Facebook page and they also raise money for charities.

Mrs Mundford said: 'Anyone can take part and can join our auction on our Facebook page. We would like to thank all of the local businesses who gave prizes and made this possible.

'Our last online auction in 2013, raised £1,565 for the Big C in one-and -a-half hours.

'We wrote to the Duchess of Cambridge, patron of East Anglia's Children's Hospices, to inform her of our work and received a reply.

'Events like this not only support charities close to our hearts but also raise more awareness of our group and allow more new mums, in the same situation, to find us.'
