The girl was walking alone along an alleyway between Staniforth Road and Pine Close between 10.30pm and 11.45pm on Wednesday when the assault took place.

An unknown man punched her several times before taking her purse. A police spokesman said the girl was left with bruising and was extremely shaken by the attack.

Police are looking for witnesses to the incident.

The man is described as white, in his late 20’s, slim build and approximately 6ft tall, clean shaven, with short dark hair, a wide mouth, with chubby lips and long finger nails. He is believed to have been wearing a black hooded top.
