The road was completely blocked for an hour following the collision, and was later restricted to one lane, with police directing traffic, until just before 11am.

Paramedics were called at 8.45am, and the road was blocked in both directions for just over an hour, causing severe delays.

In an update, an ambulance service spokesman said there were five casualties, with two people taken to hospital with minor injuries and three people treated and discharged at the scene.

Firefighters from Dereham, Earlham and Carrow were called to the scene at 9.01am, and used small hand tools to help free one person who was trapped. They were stood down at 9.29am.

The accident happened on a single-carriageway section of the road between the two Hockering junctions.

The vehicles crashed during cold weather, but it was believed to have been snowing at the time.

  • I think we need a permanent paramedic insitu along this section of the A47. It is getting beyond a joke now. There is no such thing as a 'dangerous road'; it is the fools who think they are immortal driving above and beyond their own limitations.
