Motorists are being warned to take care on Norfolk’s roads in the morning, after about four inches of snow fell throughout the county today.

Snow is still falling across many parts of the county with west Norfolk and Norwich particularly hit.

A Norfolk police spokesman said that there had been an increased number of road accidents because of the weather conditions.

Head teachers across Norfolk will decide tomorrow whether to close their schools, and the Norfolk County Council website will be updated if there are any school closures.

The snow started falling in the west of the county in the early afternoon and moved eastwards throughout the day.

Norwich escaped the snow until about 5pm, but it has ben snowing since then.

There have been reports of snow across most of the county, although Yarmouth has, so far, escaped.

Several Greater Anglia trains between Ipswich, Cambridge and London have also been cancelled because of the weather conditions, and a speed limit has been imposed on services.

A Norfolk County Council spokesman said that snow ploughs have been in use across the county.

More snow is forecast for the county overnight.

  • "Traffic soon slowed on even the major routes as the snow began to settle. Minor roads were soon carpeted in white, reducing drivers to a crawl." If the incinerator gets built in the west of the county, presumably we can look forward to an even better cross-county gritting service? Of course as transport hasn't been factored in to the costs at all, it will make no difference to the imaginary savings will it Cllr Borrett? That will all be left to the taxpaying fairies.

  • Can't believe the comments comparing us to Scandinavian countries. The reason they have better equipment is because they have a lot more snow for a lot longer. If we bought the same equipment then we would be obliged to have deep snow for at least 6 months of the year to ensure we get our moneys worth from it.

  • I was in Oslo last week and tomorrow I travel to Malmo - both with serious snow and freezing temperatures and NO major travel issues - over the weekend and today I have been living in a county seemingly almost on its knees because of 'usual winter' weather - cold temperatures and heavy rain, oh and approx 0.5 cm of the white stuff settling for approx 30 mins- what a joke!

  • I know this post will be deleted as usual, but in all honesty does the Evening news imagine that it's readers lack a window to look out of? It's winter therefore it's cold therefore there is snow, where's the news in that?
