It is like a 20m-long fish out of water, and has been holding up cars and lorries as it slowly wends it way along the region’s roads to start its new life.

Police are escorting a large yacht through Norfolk this morning, as it is driven from Hoveton to Ipswich.

Officers have been stationed at bridges to ensure the Oyster 625, which measures more than 5m wide and started its journey at 8am, has a safe journey.

It was due to follow local roads at Hoveton and then travel on the A1151, A149, B1152, A1064, A47, A11, A1304, A14, A1308, B1113, A1071, A1214, A14, A137 and local roads close to the destination site.

Police warned drivers to expect delays.

The manufacturer’s website says the Oyster 625 “is guaranteed to turn heads wherever she goes”, and that certainly seems to be the case in Norfolk and Suffolk today.
