Summer works to take place on Thetford Bus Station expected to cause road closures

Five weeks of work on Thetford’s new Bus Interchange is expected to take place from July.

Norfolk County Council is planning to carry on its work to prepare the area around Minstergate and St Nicholas Street from July 7 having already completed a number of upgrades.

A spokesman for the county council said the first stage will see three weeks of work to improve what will be the entrance to the new bus station by limiting car usage to residents only on Minstergate.

This will will involve realigning the carriageway to aid the entry of buses into the bus station and improving the pedestrian facilities.

On August 3, work will be carried out to resurface the existing carriageway on Minstergate and St Nicholas Street for one day.

The following day will see two weeks of work begin on resurfacing London Road and Norwich Road, between number 7 Minstergate and number 13 Norwich Road within the school holiday. Four way stop/go boards will be used during the work.

The spokesman said: “The method and time of construction for these works have been carefully considered and the least troublesome and best longer term maintenance solution is to complete the works during a road closure.

“We appreciate this will cause disruption, however these works cannot be completed overnight due to disturbance for local residents, and the nature of the location does not allow works to be completed without some negative impact.”

The county council has asked businesses and residents directly affected by the works to make alternative parking and delivery arrangements on August 3 between 6.30am and 8pm as access will not be available.

Signage detailing the works will be provided one week in advance of the closure and ‘Businesses open as usual’ signs will be provided on the Sunday.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the closures.
