A popular one-way route in Cromer town centre will remain blocked tomorrow, one day longer than expected.
Resurfacing work along part of Mount Street started yesterday and was expected to finish today but delayed work by Anglian Water has caused diversions to remain for a third day, according to a Norfolk County Council spokesman.
He said this evening: “On Monday we were going fine but in the afternoon Anglian Water wanted to connect a new service on Mount Street. To avoid a brand new surface being dug up it was agreed that the Anglian Water work should be done immediately to carry out the connection on Monday night.”
The spokesman added the work had not been completed this morning so only part of the resurfacing work could go ahead today, but not all.
“We apologise for the extra day of disruption. It was caused by something that was beyond our control. We hope the showery forecast holds off and we are going to do everything we can to get it finished,” he said.
Some business owners on Church Street complained business had been slower because of the work.
Richard Leeds, owner of Randalls Electrical, said today footfall in his store over the past two days was down 50pc compared to normal days.
He said: “Business has gone down amazingly.”
Marcus Hickling, owner of Artyfax Home and Artyfax on Church Street, said business had been quieter but he would rather the resurfacing work was done now rather than later when the town was busier.
