Long-running roadworks on a number of Norwich city centre roads should come to an end on Monday, but recent bad weather means workers will need to return one more time later this month.

Work in the Queens Road/Brazen Gate/All Saints Green/Grove Road of the city started in January - part of a £670,000 Transport for Norwich scheme.

The work includes: installing a camera to enforce the Grove Road bus gate; replacing the signal crossing on Grove Road with a zebra crossing; a new zebra crossing on Brazen Gate; new cycle lanes in Brazen Gate and All Saints Green and modifications to the pedestrian crossings at Queens Road junction.

During the work, there have been road closures, lane closures and temporary traffic lights, while families in Grove Road had to endure noisy overnight resurfacing work.

The traffic management is due to be removed on Monday, after the remaining traffic signals are installed, but there will still need to be one final night of work for the finishing touches to the new cycleway and lining.

A spokeswoman for Transport for Norwich said: “The majority of work on Brazen Gate is due to finish on Monday, at which point all traffic management will be removed from site.

“Due to recent bad weather, the application of red surfacing to the cycle lanes had to be rescheduled and this means a final shift of overnight work is needed.

“Details of this are being finalised and we will be in touch with those affected to let them know the final arrangements.

“This last stage of work will not be as disruptive as previous shifts and we will work with our contractor to minimise impact as much as possible. We would like to thank all those affected again for their patience as we finish the project.”

Last month, police were called after a woman who lives in Grove Road staged a protest over the late night work being done close to her home.
