Safety fears will see part of a notorious junction in West Lynn shut as soon as possible, it was announced today (Thursday).

Residents have demanded Norfolk County Council close the slip lane at the busy Clenchwarton Road junction since it was built last year as part of a 55,000 improvement project.

Campaigners reported an increased number of crashes at the site, near the East Coast Business Park, as a result of the changes and warn that near-misses are still occurring as frequently as once an hour.

The council's decision follows the installation of a CCTV camera at the junction earlier this month, with footage confirming the true extent of the problem.

A spokesman said: 'Given the near misses shown by the CCTV camera, we have taken immediate steps to arrange for the closure and some associated changes to road markings.'
