Rail passengers on the main line between the region and London's Liverpool Street can now sign up to show their support for a new campaign to improve services.

The Great Eastern Rail Campaign was launched yesterday by the taskforce set up by regional MPs, the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership, and business organisations to persuade the Department for Transport and the rail industry to invest in the route.

The aim is for new, modern trains to reach Ipswich in 60 minutes from Liverpool Street and Norwich in 90.

Within hours of the campaign being launched hundreds of people had signed up as supporters – and organisers are hoping it will gather momentum during the summer and autumn.

Taskforce members Ipswich MP Ben Gummer and Norwich North MP Chloe Smith joined Chris Starkie from the New Anglia LEP at Ipswich station where a refurbished commuter train was on display and one of the first refurbished InterCity trains formed a service to London.
