Be patient over lorry speed limit

06:53 14 August 2014

If you’ve been wondering why lorries are still trundling along rural roads at 40mph despite the law being changed to 50mph it’s because it does not come into effect until early next year.

The government announced last month it was raising the speed limit for lorries by 10mph for roads on which cars can travel at 60mph.

The move, supported by the AA and RAC, aims to reduce long tailbacks of traffic and relieve drivers’ frustration at being stuck behind slow-moving lorries.

Thanks to those people who have pointed out that it is not being implemented until next year... we’ll have to be patient a little longer but it will be worth it in the long run.

The government is also consulting on raising the dual-carriageway limit for lorries from 50mph to 60mph so maybe that will come into force at the same time.
