Drivers face more diversions and delays after the closure of part of the A47.

Highways England said it has closed the westbound carriageway at Saddlebow, King’s Lynn, for “an urgent safety inspection”.

It added: “During ongoing major repair work to repair accident damage to steel beams on the bridges, inspections have identified further damage to the concrete bridge deck over the A47 that could put safety of road users at risk.

“The westbound A47 is being closed to allow the damage to be inspected and made safe using a mobile elevated working platform. The westbound A47 will be reopened as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meantime, drivers are being diverted across the junction interchange.”

A scheduled closure on the eastbound A47 between 8pm today until 6am tomorrow will go ahead as planned. The bridges are being repaired as part of an £18m package of work on the route.
