The sky staged its own spectacular show in Sheringham on Saturday evening as a well-timed prelude to the town’s own festive light show.

The 4.30pm light fantastic came at the end of a day of entertainment in the seaside town.
From 11am, there was singing and street entertainment, all organised by the Upcher Community Partnership, which arranged the light switch-on.
At 3.45pm members of Sheringham Baptist Church donned costumes to perform a “living nativity” on Otterndorf Green, before its gospel choir sang songs in front of the town clock.
A healthy crowd braved chilly winds to be entertained by members of the cast of Dick Whittington, including the panto dame Sarah the Cook and the rotten King Rat.
After a bit of ad-libbing to fill time when a technical hitch temporarily stopped the music, the cast sang Bad Rodent, a spoof version of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance.
Then, Sheringham Salvation Army Band played The First Noel and Once in Royal David’s City, before the traditional countdown to the switch-on.
After the lights came on, town mayor Doug Smith thanked the organisers, those who took part, and the public for turning out.
Question: Am I right in thinking this weed is sorrel? It has appeared in my lawn after all this rain. I have a fairly weed-free lawn I use ‘feed and weed’ but I think it needs something stronger to kill the roots. (K Bennett, Wheatacre)

4.30 ? Why such an early switch on?
