PRIVATE jets, masseuses, luxury villas and special meat and flowers flown in from around the globe are all part of a new era of opulence which is sweeping through Ibiza.

This year, the luxury market sector has rocketed in the Balearic isle known for its hippy roots and concierge companies like Ibiza Solutions are capitalising on it.

Ibizan Paloma Bonder set up the company four years ago after she saw bankers and celebrities shunning destinations like St Tropez for Ibiza’s more laid-back vibe.

The concierge industry is worth millions to Ibiza each season. This year Paloma can really feel a change in the types of people visiting and wanting bigger houses and bigger boats.

Ibiza Solutions now has 180 properties, 20 boats and numerous staff who can organise just about anything for hip and wealthy actors, models and musicians.

“It is non-judgemental here unlike places such as St Tropez. Ibiza has a hippy mindset and happy vibe. It has always been like that. Ibiza’s spiritual energy is also a big draw for people and it is less pretentious than other places,” said Paloma.

Paloma can arrange anything from a DJ booth on a boat to bringing a shop to someone’s villa. Some requests such as asking for the whole villa to be filled with flowers still surprise her. She adds: “I like meeting great clients that come and change their lives at least for a few weeks and allow Ibiza to give them happiness.”

The number of high end hotels has also shot up. Newly-opened boutique hotel The Giri Residence is housed in 150-year-old building which was a school and also served as a police station under General Franco.

Run by friendly Dane Lars Hansen, the Giri is in San Juan in the far north of the island. With only five rooms, it offers a perfect retreat away from the madness of the island as soon as you step through the mysterious entrance. The idea is you are a guest in someone’s home. The décor comes entirely from Bali, Morocco and Spain and is cool, intimate and stylish without being over the top.

Retreat into the garden to lay back on one of the beds and listen to the wind amuse the reeds.

Chic beach club El Chiringuito at Es Cavallet is a non-pretentious gem where we enjoyed a long, laidback lunch with diverse food. Sea bass and tuna come highly recommended. We also snatched a glimpse of Naomi Campbell there with her entourage enjoying the beach and blue waters.

SOS at Jason Bull’s Sands Beach Club is a weekly Saturday party which attracts families for both its kids club and mojitos. A relaxed crowd of expat faces from the music scene were hanging out the day we visited with Nightmares on Wax playing while the children played nearby.

Most of the high end visitors also like to party and this year has seen more events than ever. For the most spectacular clubbing experience, don’t miss Tiesto playing his weekly Monday residency at Privilege until September 27.

The world’s largest club is the stuff of dreams for DJs and clubbers. Each night is a visual and aural feast. Erotic and artistic shows feature circus acts, acrobats, dancers as well as impressive laser and light displays. Tiesto’s mix of trance and electro hits is the perfect soundtrack for the club.

You will find the ultra glamorous crowd partying at Pacha, which has funky Balearic beats galore at Defected in the House on Saturdays and is the epitome of Ibiza chic.

Party among the Abercrombie and Fitch-style models who take to the podiums and flaunt their baby-oiled bodies adorned with kinky chains and clamps.

Legendary DJ Pete Tong’s weekly Friday night residency at Eden will continue next season too for his fourth consecutive year. We saw Fatboy Slim make a rare appearance mixing in a lot of retro tunes and enjoying himself which sent the crowd wild.

We Love Space on Sundays is still one of the islands’ biggest and favourite nights. An eclectic and laid-back crowd take over the maze of rooms which host a mixture of beats and vibes.

2 Many DJ’s shook up the crowd in the main room on the Sunday we were there and on closing weekend (October 2) Calvin Harris will lead the line-up.

Ibiza’s friendly and positive atmosphere can clearly be felt and it is obvious why people have been coming here to party since the seventies. “The biggest shows on earth can be found here, in all senses,” added Paloma. “I get massive satisfaction from making people’s dreams come true in my home island.”

Weeds: Sheep’s Sorrel needs several applications of killer

Question: Am I right in thinking this weed is sorrel? It has appeared in my lawn after all this rain. I have a fairly weed-free lawn I use ‘feed and weed’ but I think it needs something stronger to kill the roots. (K Bennett, Wheatacre)
