Here is a look back at our archive of Norwich City v Man Utd ahead of their match Saturday 2 March at 3pm
City’s first League win at Old Trafford came at their 16th attempt, in 1986. City beat Manchester United at Carrow Road in April 2005, ending a 10 match run against Man Utd without a win – however, City were relegated at season’s end. Players for both clubs include Ted MacDougall, Steve Bruce and Phil Mulryne.
Our first game, from Division 1, was played on 6th April 1974, with City losing 2-0 and, along with Man Utd, facing relegation at season’s end. Our second match, again from Division 1, was a 2-2 draw dating from 6th December 1980 – City were again relegated at the end of the season. Our third fixture, a Premiership encounter from 9th April 2005, saw the Canaries register a 2-0 win but they finished the season in 19th place and exited the Premiership.

MB would that be the game at the height of the hooligan problems , when a TV crew followed the MU fans for the day looking for trouble and got it? Although I have a feeling that was more like the late 70s come to think of it. A Man U fan climbed to the roof of the old Barclay and fell off. Lots of fighting and so on looked pretty grim from a distance - I can remember being in the old open river end stood at the back that day as I didn't fancy the Barclay that day, liked the atmosphere not the fighting. Glad those days have gone and its one reason why I will never be in favour of bringing back standing areas.

I (think) I remember a game @ The Carra when we beat MU 2-0 with Ted MacDougall scoring both. The gestures to MU fans - who had baited him all game with a chant that comprised mostly "*ank, *ank, *ank" coupled with his name - were priceless. Would be punished for it these days!

My greatest memory of our games with Man Utd stretches back to 1967, when as a teenager among the10000 faithful who made the long journey to Old Trafford, savoured a 2-1 victory in the FA Cup.

We can beat anyone on the day, as it just depends on how we go about the job (Tacticsformations & Team selection and using Subs in good time and when its needed), and how the other managers set out their teams, I have never really worried about us playing Man Utd as on paper you say we would lose, but win draw what ever its a good result :)
