The degree to which some drivers are prepared to risk people's lives, including their own, by speeding on Norfolk's roads is truly shocking.

One Mercedes driver was caught tearing through a 30mph zone at a terrifying (and idiotic) 105mph.

There is simply no excuse for that sort of behaviour. No journey is important enough to travel at such a ridiculous speed.

This behaviour is selfish, reckless and stupid.

Speed limits are there for a reason. They are not just put up at a whim to frustrate self-important drivers who want to get from A to B as quickly as possible.

The limits are there to keep people safe and that is why they need to be adhered to.

As road safety charity Brake says, breaking the speed limit by any amount is a serious offence, but those who travel way above the speed limit are gambling with their lives and those of others.

The higher the speed, the more likely a crash is and the more likely it is to be fatal.

It beggars belief that people, despite the tragic stories about families who have lost loved ones because speed limits were broken, still think the laws do not apply to them.

It's good that Norfolk police are prosecuting these drivers, but the sad reality is that many drivers continue to think they can get away with it.

They need to learn it's not about 'getting away with it'. This is a matter of life or death.
