An array of top West End shows are heading to Norwich in the latest line-up revealed today by the Theatre Royal.
This September, Olivier Award-winning Maureen Lipman will star in Daytona, a tale of a troubled threesome, while the National Theatre’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time will be in Norwich in September 2015. Winner of seven Olivier awards, the show tells the story of 15-year-old Christopher, who has an extraordinary brain but is ill-equipped to interpret everyday life.
Hit musical Jersey Boys – which has scooped 55 major awards worldwide – will be in Norwich next July, telling the true story of four boys from the wrong side of the tracks who became Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
In March, Brian Conley is starring in Barnum, a musical about the greatest showman on earth. Then, from March into April, Top Hat waltzes into Norwich. The thriller Dead Simple, an adaptation of the Peter James novel, will take to the stage in January, and the following month will see The Woman in Black return to Norwich. There will be dancing in February with Matthew Bourne’s Edward Scissorhands, based on the Tim Burton film.
The Russian State Ballet of Siberia will also be visiting in February with three ballets, while the Richard Alston Dance Company returns in March. Northern Ballet is performing The Great Gatsby in April.
The English Touring Opera is bringing two productions in March – Puccini’s La Bohème and Donizetti’s The Wild Man of the West Indies.
As previously announced, this year’s Christmas pantomime will be Peter Pan, and in January the Norfolk and Norwich Operatic Society will present Sister Act. There are also a number of one-night shows spanning comedy, music, dancing and more.
Judy Foster, of Norwich Theatre Royal, said: “We have some world class, critically-acclaimed theatre coming to Norwich over the next few months and into next year – it’s a very exciting and eclectic programme to look forward to.
“It ranges from the very best drama, to stunning ballet and opera, and of course some top class family entertainment, with shows such as Daytona, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Barnum, Top Hat and the huge global hit of Jersey Boys all destined for the Norwich Theatre Royal stage. Plus we have our Peter Pan family pantomime which is a firm fixture on the region’s Christmas calendar and is not-to-be-missed.”
