Sizzling temperatures on Saturday took the weather to breaking point - and that night saw some of the most remarkable sights witnessed over Norfolk for years.

The storms were predicted by Chris Bell, a forecaster for UEA-based Weatherquest, who said the storms would “get people talking about lightning overnight”.

He was not wrong, with thousands of people taking to social media to share their stories and photos.

There were more storms yesterday, bringing to a close a weekend of extreme weather.

People across Norfolk and Suffolk have captured the spectacular storm on camera and video, including Tw who witnessed a lightning display over Hockering.

Neil Butcher caught a shot of a lightning from inside the Forum over Norwich while there have also been pictures sent in of lightning over St Peter Mancroft Church in Norwich as well as storms in other parts of the region, including Sheringham, Oulton Broad and Wenhaston.

Sheringham photographer Chris Taylor captured the drama while sheltering from the rain at the resort’s boating lake.

Mr Taylor was taking photos between 11pm and 1am on Saturday and Sunday and said the most spectacular strikes came at about 12.30am.

“We had a full panorama across the sea and cliffs,” he said.

Mr Taylor used a tripod-mounted Canon 5D mark 3 camera with a Canon 16-35mm lens and used a 30-second exposure.
