MG specialists Holden of Norwich is one of the first MG dealers in the country to take delivery of a new MG6 sports fastback.
Holden general sales manager Phil Miller was given a civic send-off by Mike Whitby, leader of Birmingham City Council, during a ceremony outside the city’s Council House.
Earlier he had collected the car from MG Motor UK’s factory at the MG Birmingham site. The MG6 is the first all-new MG to be built in the UK in 16 years.
He said: “We are delighted to be one of the first MG dealers in the country to have an MG6 to show to our customers and we’ve already received a huge amount of interest in the new model.
“Having driven it back from Birmingham I can now see what all the fuss is about. It’s a brilliant car and has that dynamic driving quality that marks it out as a true MG.”
He added: “From Holden’s point of view locally it is a great addition to our range.”
Richard Hales, regional operations manager of MG Motor UK, said a saloon version of the MG6 would follow in early July and the MG6 was just the first of a sporty new line-up to mark a new era for the iconic brand.
The MG3 sports hatchback is scheduled for launch towards the end of 2012 and it will be followed by the MG5 sports saloon.
“We are still keeping the heritage,” said Mr Hales. “It is still a sporty, iconic brand and still loved.”
The sports fastback model was designed and engineered by a team of professionals at the UK plant where final assembly takes place.
Three trim models of the 160PS 1.8-litre turbo petrol MG6 are available with prices ranging from £15,495 to £18,995 for the top-of-the-range highly-equipped TSE model.
The MG6 is capable of 0-60mph in 8.4 seconds while top speed is limited to 120mph. On the combined cycle is returns 35.6mpg with CO2 emissions of 184g/km.
As well as have a very high level of standard equipment – the only option is metallic paint and the only accessory a towbar – the MG6 has particularly low levels of insurance, partly due to top speed being limited to 120mph. The entry MG6 S is rated 13E while the SE and TSE are 14E – comparable rivals are several categories above, making the MG particularly attractive from an insurance perspective.
To test-drive the MG6 at Holden MG telephone 01603 283977 or visit the Heigham Street, Norwich, showroom.
