The excitement of the FA Cup filled Norwich train station this morning as Canaries fans set off on their away-day adventure at Peterborough United.

The return of the football special service added a nostalgic feel to the day, as Greater Anglia laid on a one-off service pulled by a Class 47 diesel locomotive.

There were queues for the early regular services to Peterborough as Norwich City fans showed their determination to make it a big third-round day out at London Road, though East Midlands Trains doubled the length of the 11.57 service to cater for fans.

The football special service was the first to run from Norwich for over 20 years, since trains were chartered for the 1992 FA Cup semi-final between Norwich and Sunderland, and set off at 11.20, with green and yellow scarves draped from the windows of its 10 carriages.

The locomotives attracted attention from rail enthusiasts, some of whom had travelled from across the country to ride behind one of around 300 remaining such engines still in operation.

The Canaries kick off their third-round tie at London Road at 3pm.
