A man has claimed in a Facebook post to have found what he describes as a “dead mermaid” on the beach at Great Yarmouth. **Graphic image warning**

Paul Jones posted a photograph purportedly taken at Great Yarmouth which has been shared 15,000 times on the social media website in two days.

In his post he wrote: “Today at Great Yarmouth we found what looks like a dead Mermaid washed up on the beach.”

Facebook users have been excited and horrified in equal numbers.

A popular suggestion is that it is the body of a seal which has washed up on the shore.

  • I work near Magdalene Street. I see brain dead zombies walking around there everyday! I will send in some pictures.

  • How fabulous!!! Mermaids are awesome, I was going to marry one but in the end it just didn't have the legs. Anyway, everyone knows that Mermaids live in warm, clean water. Yarco is hardly going to be their watery Nirvana. I've always wondered if you could eat one? Few chips, lemon wedge and Tart sauce. Bet they've served worse on the sea-front.

  • Hi Archant, the first poo I did this morning bore an uncanny resemblance to Jeremy Kyle. Would you like a photo?

  • It moves in the wind, suggesting it's too light and a fake to me. Regardless a bl**dy dead mermaid is the last thing that should come to mind - a disfigured, rotten corpse of a small personchild is more likely and the authorities should have been notified! Got to laugh though!

  • Hint for those taking the video....its called a movie because it has moving pictures not because the person taking the video is supposed to be constantly moving around.... anyway, its a set up.

  • I actually saw the original post on facebook, the guy who posted it runs a special effects company and does SFX make-up etc. No doubt this is something he has made.

  • What a lovely Halloween prop wasted nearly a minute watching bin bags blowing in the wind yawn
