Eastern Daily Press

About the Eastern Daily Press

Since October 10, 1870, the Eastern Daily Press has been the standard bearer for its readers in Norfolk, north Suffolk and east Cambridgeshire, helping form opinion, encourage debate, and champion a fair deal for the future prosperity of the area.

Six days a week, more than 200,000 readers welcome the EDP into their homes, not simply because of its ability to entertain and divert, but also because of its reputation for fair, accurate reporting and authoritative comment.

Put simply, its word carries weight. Although embracing the latest technology, and breaking new ground with regional publishing innovation, one of the strengths of the EDP has been its continuity - it has always kept its roots firmly fixed in the local community.

Only 12 people have had the privilege of editing the country's largest selling regional morning newspaper. The current editor is Peter Waters, appointed in July 2009. Between 1994 and 2001 he worked on the EDP as Tabloid Project Editor for the transition from broadsheet to a compact size, launch editor of the Saturday magazine, the first in the regional newspaper industry, and then initiated and launched the EDP Norfolk glossy magazine. On his appointment, Mr Waters said: "It's an honour and a privilege to be the new custodian of this unique title. As a Norfolk man I understand that the EDP is part of the fabric of this county and has a vital role to play in reflecting and championing what is happening here."
