The demolition of several homes at risk of falling into the sea at Hemsby is to begin today.

Great Yarmouth Borough Council has employed Anglian Demolition to safely demolish five of the 13 properties which are at imminent risk of falling onto the beach.

The council has contracted with Anglian Demolition to safely demolish five of the 13 properties which are at imminent risk of falling onto the beach.

Contractors will be on site on Friday, March 23 and will start work once necessary assessments have been carried out.

Work will continue over the weekend.

It is estimated that the demolition will be completed before the Easter weekend, subject to weather conditions.

Building Control surveyors and Environmental Services officers from the council will continue to monitor the remaining eight properties at risk of being lost through coastal erosion.

On Monday, March 26 sand is set to be transported from North Beach, Great Yarmouth to Hemsby. This will be used to help fill the gap between the beach and the lifeboat so that the sloping ramp can be sustained.

Residents and visitors are reminded that the area to the east of The Marrams road and the beach below the cliffs, remain dangerous.

Members of the public are advised to avoid these areas.
