Young urban acts to show off their talent at Sheringham Little Theatre slam night
14:49 02 November 2012
The best young urban acts in Norfolk will have the rare opportunity to showcase their skills to other young people during a slam night at Sheringham Little Theatre on Saturday, November 10.
The event is being run in partnership with The Garage in Norwich and is open to people aged 13 to 21.
Headline acts include North Walsham beatboxer Intensi-T, who discovered his talent at Sheringham slam night four years ago and has since worked with Girls Aloud and Ed Sheerhan, international dancer Kendra and human beatbox Subminor.
There will also be performances from a wide range of local acts, who secured their place in the line-up during auditions earlier this year.
A scratch round will take place during the evening, when the winners will be the act that receives the loudest applause of the night. The rounds are open to anyone and acts can be anything from breakdance to poetry, singing to rap. Performers can sign-up on the night or in advance. Dancers from Marlene’s School of Dance in Cromer won the scratch round at a recent slam night in Norwich and will be performing during the event in Sheringham.
Music delivery manager at The Garage Paul Weston said: “It is a chance to show the range of talent in north Norfolk. The audience is only young people and no adults. They have a lot of respect for one another and it is a very safe environment for young people to get up and perform.”
The slam night is being held as part of The Garage’s Phonic programme. As part of the scheme, the organisation has been holding music making and production workshops in Sheringham. Further workshops are planned. Contact the Little Theatre on 01263 822347 to register an interest.
The Garage is looking for a young writer to review the slam night to be considered for publication in the North Norfolk News and on its website. Contact Paul on 01603 283365 for details and to sign up in advance for the scratch round.
Entry to the slam night costs £3 in advance or £3.50 on the door.
