Wymondham Heritage Museum reopens after winter break

PUBLISHED: 16:05 02 March 2012

Wymondham Heritage Museum has reopened following the winter break with a host of new exhibitions.

2012 marks the 70th anniversary of the arrival of the US Army Air Force in the UK and the museum at the Bridewell, off Norwich Road, is telling the story of the USAAF in and around Wymondham, especially Deopham Green airbase and Morley Hospital.

The museum also has a display on the history of Kings Head Meadow, which has been saved from being ripped up for a Asda supermarket development.

In July, there will be a small display marking the Jubilee in support of the town’s events and in August there will be a display remembering the great Wymondham flood of 1912.

Wymondham Heritage Museum is housed in the historic Bridewell, a firmer prison, police station and courthouse. Its many displays tell the story of the Bridewell and the history of Wymondham from the Stone Age to present times. There are displays on Ketts Rebellion and brushmaking together with short films and audios.

The museum is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 4pm from March 1 to October 31.
